This may be a question which gets to our nerves, since we see other people’s children happily choosing books over toys when they’re at the store and our children wont even look through one. One thing i’ve learnt to get children more engaged with books is to provide experiences for them which relate to books of interest. Children enjoy being read a book but dont necessarily go through one themselves unless they have nice pictures in them which are of their interest or they make interactive sounds. The Very Hungry Caterpillar has always been a classic in each and every household and its a book which always grabs my child’s interest.
